We looked at SOAPPSTone or APPARTS for document analysis and GPERSIA vs. GRAPES to summarize regions. The committee noticed a lack of formalized strategy for interpreting maps, charts and graphs. OPTICS can be used, but we came up with a great strategy that we called "QTIPS"
Q- read the Question
T- what is the Title of the visual
I- what Information is present- legend, captions, etc.
P- use Prior knowledge of the subject
S- Summarize the findings and answer the question.
I think that this provides a good tool for us to use with our students to walk them through these visuals.
